It is never too early to talk with our kids about money (www.talkwithourkidsaboutmoney.com).
The Canadian Foundation for Economic Education provides students, teachers and parents the resources to discuss important financial literacy topics and provides our youth, beginning in elementary school cycle three, the tools to begin understanding the importance of managing and saving their money. Students will be encouraged to work on “money” projects with the ultimate goal of putting on their own “money fair”. Through an interactive inquiry based method, students choose a topic on money which interests them in their daily lives. These topics might include: cost of a cell phone, how much does it cost to play hockey?, what is the cost of my upcoming graduation?. Students will be encouraged to research a topic of interest and collaboratively plan a presentation of these projects to their class, multiple classes in the school, or in the auditorium to a larger group. The reality of what things cost today and credit protection for youth is an important aspect of the Talk with our Kids about Money program. Students become inspired by taking part in a money fair which will guide them on the importance of being informed financial citizens in their future.
