Coding & Robotics in the Elementary Classroom

Get your students excited about coding with engaging activities that they will love. Teach them the language of coding and watch them learn and grow! In this workshop, teachers will learn how to easily start a coding club in their school. No coding background is necessary and anyone can do it! Teachers will learn different ways to support their students’ discovery of coding and robotics. They will explore coding as an effective way to teach students cooperative play, team work, problem solving, and persistence. Teachers will be provided with a list of websites, apps, and robots that can be used for a coding club. Please bring your iOS device to the workshop, if you have one.

Mixing Inquiry Based Learning and Coding

Learn how to incorporate Coding into your ELA curriculum. This session will show you how an inquiry based ELA project can lead to a coding project. No previous coding experience necessary, the second half of the workshop will be an intro to the Scratch coding website, with lots of time for you to explore Scratch. Bring your own laptop.

This is a hands on session where teachers will be presented with a STEAM challenge that integrates technology (ozobots, BeeBots, Mouse Bots, Spheros) which will require participants to follow a design process to arrive at a solution. This challenge will have a literature connection whereby teams will collaboratively design a solution with materials provided to them, following a design process.

Basic Programming using BeeBot…Not just for Kindergarten.

Creation Apps on the iPad!

Getting students excited and motivated to learn these days, is becoming a great challenge in our classrooms. When I walk into a classroom with a class set of iPads, students express such excitement. Why not use that excitement and have students demonstrate their learning? During this workshop I will show real life examples of different video integration tools you can incorporate in your lessons. You will see how easy it is to create a Green Screen video with an iPad, Google Drive and audio tools. Projects can be as simple or as complex as you like. You will see examples of student projects from K to 6. Participants should attend this interactive, hands-on workshop with an iPad. These are some of the apps I will use, so feel free to download them prior to attending; iMovie, Green Screen by Do INK ($3.99), TouchCast (Free), ChatterPix by Duck Duck Moose (Free), Google Drive (Free), and Explain Everything($$).

iPads in the Elementary Classroom

Elementary teachers will explore a variety of apps that they can integrate in their daily classroom routines. They will discover apps that can be used in all subjects, for all students. Teachers will participate in hands-on activities and will get the opportunity to try out specific games that they will be able to do with their students the very next day! Teachers will be provided with concrete examples of lessons that can be used on iOS devices. They will leave the workshop with a list of apps that they can use with their students for reading, writing, and math. They will also be shown several apps that can be useful for classroom management, test prep, and digital portfolios.
